The grant to accelerate small business R&D was approved by the 2022 Kansas State Legislature and signed into law by Governor Laura Kelly.
Johnson County Allocates Second Round Of Covid 19 Funding For Workforce Development, Small Businesses And Community Programs
Small Business R&D Acceleration Grants are designed to help Kansas small businesses develop a product or service for commercialization; modify products or services to enter new markets; Or acquire new customers using higher education facilities, equipment and expertise. This grant program is a small business partnership with Kansas State institutions of higher education that will support businesses through participation and mutual benefit. Future grantees will receive a 50/50 matching grant of up to $25,000 to conduct research and development with public institutions of higher education and for research and development costs at public institutions.

These grant opportunities are critical to staying ahead of the curve when it comes to research and development. ” General David Toland
This grant program is open to registered Kansas businesses headquartered in Kansas with 50 or fewer full-time employees and at least 60% of the workforce (including contract employees) in Kansas. For every dollar of small business research and development grants, companies must contribute $1.00 of their own resources. The maximum award amount is $25,000 and Kansas small businesses can receive one award per state fiscal year. Each prize must be a different product or service.

Category competitions must be approved by the Kansas Department of Commerce and included in the grant application. An in-kind contribution of up to 50 percent of the match may be made if provided by a public institution of higher education.
Allowable costs include prototype development, testing, validation, supply chain analysis, market analysis, regulatory approval testing, manufacturing molds, research-related materials, and development activities.
Up to $5,000 may be used to pay student interns for work related to the proposed program.
How To Get A Business Grant For Your Small Business
Non-allowable expenses include travel, meals, conference registration, direct sales and marketing, publishing expenses, hotels, regular and ongoing operating expenses, university expenses, and new training program creation.
